In March and April this year, more than 2,500 people gave us feedback about what they would like to see in the new community leisure facility.
This feedback has been invaluable in shaping our early plans. You can see below some of the most popular suggestions we received and how we have worked with our design team to incorporate these into our plans.
We asked what you would like to see in a new community leisure destination.
A new swimming pool suitable for leisure and competitive swimming
A 25m pool with eight lanes, suitable for leisure and competitive swimming
A pool for swimming lessons
A 20m x 10m teaching pool
A slide or activities for children in the pool
An area for children’s water play
Spectator seating for the pool
Seating for 150 spectators
Family-friendly activities for children
Facilities like a clip and climb and soft-play
Four squash courts
A six-court sports hall will include provision for indoor basketball courts
Better outdoor and green spaces
High quality public spaces and a better connection to Fairfield Recreation Ground
Spaces for adult education
Flexible community space suitable for adult education
Sauna and steam rooms
The new centre should be fully accessible
Fully accessible throughout
Sustainable features and targeting BREEAM ‘Excellent’
Some people also asked for other facilities such as a lido or ice-rink. Unfortunately, we were not able to make space for these features as the pool was the clear priority for residents and space is limited.
